In this name, "Makora" refers to the Japanese name for Mahāla, one of the Twelve Heavenly Generals in Buddhist tradition. Both "Mahoraga" and "Makora" refers to the same mythological being. The difference is that "Mahoraga" is the sanskrit name while "Makora" is the japanese one. Still, it's not a valid excuse since the manga clearly went with "Makora" for the shikigami.. Mahoraga is correct, because this is Sanskrit pronunciation. JJK Makora is a reference to Makora of the Twelve Divine Generals, from the East Asia variants of Buddhims. And its name in Sanskrit is Mahala. Japanese Buddhism DOES have entities called Mahoraga (also called Magoraga), but they are a different set of beings.
