Common troubleshooting issues with Lutron 3-way motion sensor switch wiring. If you are experiencing issues with your Lutron 3-way motion sensor switch wiring, there are a few common troubleshooting steps you can take to identify and resolve the problem. Here are some common issues you may encounter: 1. Dimmed or flickering lights. I put the motion sensor in the switch #1 position, with black as the load wire, red and white as travelers and ground. When the motion sensor is installed, it is a 3 pole motion sensor switch, it will not work consistently. The motion sensor switch will click on and off, but it will only work depending on the position of switch #2.
See Diagram A 3-way (Two locations)- 3-way switches will have insulated wires connected to three screws plus a green ground screw. One of these wires is connected to a screw of a different color (not green) or labeled COMMON. Tag this wire on both switches to identify when removing. See Diagram B 1 3 A 3 B! Single Pole A 1 Switch controlling.. Identify switch type (Single pole, 3-way or 4-way) and tag the COMMON terminal.
