The brass terminal is for the black hot wire, the chrome terminal is for the white neutral wire and the green terminal is for the ground wire, which may be bare or covered with green insulation. Keep in mind that the cord you use for a 3-prong plug has to have these three wires.. Take your wire cutter or stripper and carefully cut the cord about 2 inches from the old plug. Use the wire stripper to remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from each of the three wires - the black (hot) wire, the white (neutral) wire, and the green (ground) wire. Wire the new plug. Take the new three-prong plug and unscrew the back cover.

The white wire is an integral part of a 3 prong plug's wiring system. It is commonly known as the neutral wire and plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation of electrical appliances. Understanding the function and purpose of the white wire is essential for anyone interested in working with electrical circuits and wiring.. The plug will have three terminals: a brass-colored terminal for the hot wire, a silver-colored terminal for the neutral wire, and a green terminal for the grounding wire. Attach the hot wire (usually black or red) to the brass terminal, the neutral wire (usually white) to the silver terminal, and the grounding wire (usually green) to the green.
