In the case of the Greenstar 4000 you connect the "Heat Link E" across the "Switch Live (Live Return)" for "CH demand input" and the "230v Out" Live connection. Out of the box the boiler comes with a jumper cable permanently connecting these two terminals, so you obviously have to remove that.. The Heat Link must be connected to a compatible electrical system. If your home is powered by a low voltage system, it may not be compatible with the Heat Link. Additionally, the Heat Link may not be compatible with heating systems that use natural gas or oil. Finally, the Nest Thermostat and Heat Link may be limited by the age of your heating.
