The M17 was first offered with and without the manual safety. The non was later dropped and is currently only produced with a manual safety (not to say that there may not be a few without still out there). The M18 however was only made with the manual safety.. Thank you for all of the replies fellows. I am thinking of taking the manual safety off of one of my M18's that I am going to carry and keep the other one with it. I have the fde version and I found a black M18 that I am eyeing at the moment. I just might buy another fde one though as that color just appeals to me right now.

Drove 5 hours round trip to go hang out with my son. We played baseball, basketball and did some running around. Carried it the whole time with the safety off..
