In electricity supply, a ring circuit is an electrical wiring topology in which power is distributed through a continuous cable ring. Each conductor of the ring is connected to the source of the supply at both of its ends.. Ring Main and spurs Ring mains as they are called are a series of cables linked together, starting and terminating at the same point in a distribution board. The cable size is important it has to be either 2.5sq mm or 4.0sq mm twin core and earth, these are rated (in free air) at 24amps or 32amps respectively. Ring mains may have spurs off them either they can be spured from an existing socket.

The number of spurs on the ring must not exceed the number of other socket outlets. If for some reason you need a large number of spurs, it is time to replace the whole circuit rather than keep adding to it.. Is their a maximum number of spurs I can run off an actual ring main circuit cable, using a junction box? I know I can run one spur off each socket, but I'd like to run them direct from the ring main cable as its closer to where I need the plug sockets. I also know I can run one spur from a junction box. But what if I use 2 or 3 junction boxes?
